We went to the flea market. We spent three hours there and still didn't see all of it, although its layout is so confusing that we thought we did - turned out there was more on the other side of a parking lot, and more yet across the street and up the road a half a mile or so. We'll know next time - we'll probably go back in April. We bought a 1972-ish metal Walt Disney World lunchbox by Aladdin, complete with thermos but missing its handle, for $10; a few other booths had the same lunchbox WITHOUT the thermos for $35. We figured we could sell it for a profit on eBay, but unfortunately it doesn't seem to be a good seller there; there's one up with no bids at $17, and the only one in the "completed items" search went for $9. Damn.

In the parking lot was a big travel buz advertising the upcoming movie Starsky & Hutch starring Owen Wilson and some other guy. I giggled at the idea of Owen Wilson and the other guy possibly being there - "Mr. Wilson, can I touch your nose?"

The primary problem revealed by PPA's investigation was the misuse of machines in Kinko's self-service areas. In many instances, PPA found that Kinko's employees would refuse to copy copyrighted works behind the counter, but then assist that same customer in creating illegal copies on self-service machines. "We nipped that one in the bud," says Brandi Simpson of Kinko's Legal Department. She added that upon learning of the problem, Kinko's notified its employees that if something is copyrighted they cannot direct, or permit, customers to copy it on self-service machines.

Emphasis mine. I wish the assistant manager would get that through her fucking head. People come in with copyrighted photos - recent ones, mind, so it's not like she can even PRETEND to believe they're out of copyright already - and she says "we can't run it back here, but take it out to Jennifer and she'll get you set up on an Express machine." And I say "I'm sorry, ma'am, but this photograph is copyrighted; we need to have the written consent of the photographer to make copies of it" and they say "But your manager told me you'd do it" and I go to her and tell her that we're not allowed to let THEM do it either once we know it's copyrighted and she says "Well do you want to spend all day arguing with them?" and since she outranks me and SHE already told THEM that I WOULD do it for them I don't really have a fucking choice now do I? Of course if I show her that fucking page she'll probably get me fired for insubordination or something in the current climate but IT FUCKING PISSES ME OFF TO NO END.
