titusnowl: (prettiest girl ever)
I dearly love flowers. Pretty much any kind of flower. I used to buy myself a single rose - they were $1.50 - from the grocery store back home; it would brighten my desk for a week or more. I'd get a different color each time - one week bright yellow (I once got the BIGGEST ROSE EVER, it was 6" across; it was the yellow rose of Texas), one week orange, one week pink or bright red, sometimes white with pink blush or yellow fading to a sunset orange. I loved having those flowers. You'd think around here, 45 minutes from the Rose Capital of the World (for so Tyler styles itself) and an hour away from America's Rose Garden (in Shreveport), roses would be plentiful and cheap, but they're not really. I haven't had flowers in months. I bought a dozen at Albertson's once when they were on sale, buy a half dozen get a half dozen free, for $6, but that was a long time ago. I miss my flowers. These days, what with the holiday coming up, there are flowers being pushed in your face everywhere you go, but then again they're overpriced right now, so no flowers for me. I do love them, though. Even carnations and daisies.

There are but 16 days until our Disney trip. With tickets already purchased and tax refund on the way, money is not anticipated to be a problem. We might even have enough to step out to the Brown Derby one evening. If we do, we're going to cut a rug '40s style, really get into the MGM studios Classic Hollywood atmosphere.

That'll be easy for Justin; he has a pair of cuffed pants that look sufficiently zoot-suit, and he looks absolutely smashing when he wears them with suspenders and a white button-up shirt with the sleeves rolled up, no jacket, his fedora. For me, though... I have a '70s reproduction of a '40s dress in bright red which fits me very well; a brand-new dress from Walmart which looks very '30s and also fits me well; a very formal black taffeta dress with red lining from the '50s which needs a couple of new buttons and a crinoline to look right; and the most adorable '50s sundress EVER, which could easily look '40s style with no crinoline and a silly hat, but it is too small for my ribcage - it zips up past my tummy but can't go over my ribs. And it's not like I can lose weight on my RIBS. Dammit. Me and my manribs. The '30s dress is already packed, but I'd like to have something more definitely '40s... I also wish I had something suitably '40s to wear in the daytime (so no skirts!). My dream is a pair of those WWII-style sailor pants with thirteen buttons in the front and a laceup panel in the back and the wide legs. They're hard to find in my inseam length (31" or 32"), though. Ralph Lauren makes them new, but the ones I found on ebay were $25, which, I dunno, seems like a bit much for pants. Although I guess it's not, really; my last pair of jeans I bought new were $18. But then what shirt would I wear? I have no idea what shirt would look good with WWII-style sailor pants.

And if anyone can help me find a picture of Standard 1940s Hair, please do so I can get my hair cut and styled. The style I'm thinking of was ubiquitous and can be seen in any movie made in that decade; parted on the side, curled under on the bottom, curled over on the top above the forehead (but NOT rolled). I see it every single day when I flip past TCM or AMC, but I can't find any pictures of it online! The style I want is just curled on the bottom and smooth along the skull, with no rolls or rats or anything. It's not exactly what the chick in my icon has, it's more structured, but her part is in the right place...
