My birdfeeder has resulted in a prodigious mess all over the balcony I share with my neighbor, Secret Asian Man, so I had to get a broom and sweep all the seed hulls under the welcome mat (actually carpet remnant from the redecorating of my apartment before I moved in) on my side of the patio.
When I was in line at Walmart to purchase the broom, I accidentally wonked the guy ahead of me with it. I apologized, and this started a conversation in which he described his living room to me and asked if I thought the lamp he was buying would go with it. He had two large couches in the room, one on each of two walls in a corner, and he was buying a pair of king-sized flat sheets to drape over them like slipcovers, and a little cast-iron and faux-leather-shade lamp to put on a table in the corner between the pair of couches. Apparently the color scheme is light blue, navy blue, dark red, and tan, taking its cue from the Indian-print window covering he uses to block out the light instead of using regular blinds. I told him I thought his lamp would look splendid.
On the way out to the car, I started to wonder if he was just being friendly and chatting, or if he was chatting me up. "She's a chick, she probably knows decoratey stuff" or "Maybe I can ask her by to see it...."
Meh. Either way, it was friendly human contact in a non-professional setting, which is INSANELY rare for me nowadays. Wee!

I read Small Gods. People are always on about it being one of his best.
It sucked.
It wasn't all that funny, it dragged along and was soooo slow at times, I felt the characterization was poor, and in generally I didn't like it.
There, now I've said it.
