This is absolutely fucking ridiculous.
Jan. 21st, 2005 02:31 pmI've owned the same pair of black sneakers to wear to work for two years. They're in such bad shape that the soles have literally split in half and the insoles fold up under my feet when I walk. I haven't bought new ones because new ones cost $20 and I rarely have $20 to spare. When I do have $20 to spare I can't find a pair of shoes that is completely black, under $20, and comfortable enough to wear from 8 am to 6 pm every day of the week, standing up the entire time.
These shoes are in such bad shape that for the past three weeks I've been getting severe leg cramps and muscle aches that don't even go away over the weekend. My feet hurt even when my weight is off them for several hours. My calves and other leg muscles ache like I've pulled them all. It's crept up to my back. I've been taking hot baths every night, with Epsom salt, hoping that will make me feel better, and I still ache so much that I have a hard time falling asleep.
The only reason I managed to buy a pair of shoes yesterday is that Justin got a scholarship from the News-Journal that leaves us with cash to spare for a little while. I looked through the entire Pay-Less store for twenty minutes trying to find a suitable pair of shoes in size 10. I finally found a pair by Champion that were extremely comfortable, completely black (not black and white or black and pink or black and blue), and $20 exactly. I was very excited and I wore them to work today. I took my old shoes in too, just in case the new ones weren't as comfortable as they'd been in the store. But for two whole hours it was GREAT. Nothing hurt at all! I was extremely comfortable!
Then stupid general manager came in and told me I can't wear those shoes to work.
Why?
There's a fucking white stripe on the fucking sole. The fucking stripe is literally half an inch wide and runs around the rubber part of the sole. You can't fucking SEE the soles of my shoes because I work behind a fucking waist-high counter, but the fucking half-inch-wide white rubber stripe on my black shoes makes them COMPLETELY inappropriate for work, because customers are going to see my white stripe and say "Oh Noes, I can't shop here! Her shoes are not flat black! She's so completely unprofessional I'd better leave and drive to Mesquite and go to Office Depot intsead!!!!!!!!!"
So I had to put my old shoes back on and within half an hour my legs were aching again and my feet want to fall off.
What makes it even worse is that of the four guys on duty right now, one of them is wearing a pair of Timberlake boots that are black and brown, and another is wearing a pair of black Vans-type shoes that have a half-inch wide stripe around the sole.
This makes me so fucking upset I have been on the verge of crying ever since she made me change my shoes back to the painful ones.
