Oct. 1st, 2006 07:12 pmAttended a wedding last night, and stayed after so that we could (a) be in a photo of the entire extended family and (b) help clean up a bit. During the photo session I perched on a pew in the back of the church in my charming flapper frock, while the wedding party rushed about changing places and going hither and yon as needed. As the groomsmen were dismissed, I found myself surrounded by handsome young men with soft Southern accents and black satin waistcoats. It was delightful.

Oct. 1st, 2006 09:47 pmLive/eviL is a monthly glossy mag that retails at $4.95 (annual subscriptions are just $29.95 - save nearly 50% off the cover price!). Regular columns include a Q&A/tips and tricks section with reader participation, interviews with people making waves in the world of villainy, and a Literary Selection. Also included are comics, including one along the lines of Goofus & Gallant (Gallant is a sissy nancy-boy who picks up his own trash and recycles it; Goofus uses his empty crisps packet to personally smother a baby seal), and a crossword puzzle with a $25 monthly prize that is actually won by extortion and threats rather than by luck of the draw. There are quarterly "special focus" issues: April's focus is on fashion, July's interior design, October's the practical application of evil lifestyle tips, and December's year in review. The Year in Review issue includes a spotlight on the Villain of the Year, but this year they're running into difficulties. Last year's winner, you see, was Zombie Hitler - but it turns out that superheroic flyboy Ace Bravo subscribes to the magazine under an assumed name, and used the information given in the article to track down Zombie Hitler's current location and put a 12-gauge hole in his reanimated skull. Now they're having trouble convincing anyone to accept the honors. Managing editor Don Perdido is thinking they'll have to award the prize without providing an accompanying article, but star reporter Charlie Laird is convinced he can get an interview with this year's nominee before they go to press.
