sitting in the dark with the monitors turned off and only a candle (a mexican prayer candle to la santa muerta, it's all i've got besides the pancho villa and "law stay away" prayer candles) listening to the Libera Me movement of benjamin britten's war requiem

it is that mix of mournful and triumphant that characterizes wwii, although the images that accompany the music in my mind are of wwi.  i hear machine guns and a charge over the top with bugle call.

it is beautiful.
