I've got a mule, her name is Sal 15 miles on the Erie Canal She's a good old worker and a good old pal 15 miles on the Erie Canal We've hauled some barges in our day Filled with lumber, coal and hay Til we know every inch of the way From Albany to Buffalo-oooo Low bridge! Everybody down! Low bridge 'cause we're coming to a town And you'll always know your neighbor You'll always know your pal If you've ever navigated on the Erie Canal
I sing this spontaneously and repetitively. If I see a sign that says "Low Bridge," cue the Erie Canal song. We learned it in grade school. We also learned a song called "Buttermilk Hill" which I've never heard since (there i sat on buttermilk hill, who could blame me cry my fill, and every tear would turn a mill, johnny is gone for a soldier)
