Jun. 25th, 2004 12:55 amIt is time once again for the Texas Shakespeare Festival. I greatly hope to catch a showing of "The Rivals," the play which gave us the word "malapropism." The producer is aiming for a true 18th century look, not only in the costuming and scenery but also in the very theater design and lighting, which will be fairly historically accurate to what would have been experienced 229 years ago by the original theatergoers.
This will be my very first play. I've never been to live theater of my own volition, although I went to a couple on school field trips.
Anyway, I'm always in favor of anything that has a naval officer, a chick with a ship on her head, and flagitious abuse of both wigs and the English language. At least when the flagitious language abuse is amusing.
I believe they call it a putain.
That would be a patois, joy.
So it would be. But I'm sure I've heard that word somewhere.
