HOW TO SCREEN PRINT A THING FOR CHEAP
Apr. 12th, 2006 12:17 pmYou will need:
1. A frame. An embroidery hoop works admirably. Legos will work in a pinch.
2. A screen. Pantyhose are technically OK but it's really better to buy some sheer material like crinoline.
3. Ink. I use Speedball. Make sure it is fabric printing ink and not regular screenprinting ink or it will not stick to the fabric.
4. Elmer's glue.
5. Cheap paintbrushes.
How you do it:
1. Design whatever it is you want to print and print it out in black and white.
2. Put your screen in the frame and trace the whateveritis onto the screen.
3. Use glue to mask out all the places the ink should not go.
4. After the glue is dry, use a cheap brush to force the ink through the screen and onto the whateveritis.
5. Follow the directions on your ink bottle to set it.
6. Profit.
My first project was putting the gonzo fist on the back of my punk rock jeans. My second project was putting "Oh Bloody Hell" on one of Justin's t-shirts. My third project is putting this on a t-shirt:
