So in my quest for new yayhappyswing I downloaded something credited to Glenn Miller - Jumpin' Jive, which I know was originally a Cab Calloway song. It sounds awfully familiar tune-wise though I'd never heard the words - in this version voiced by a chipper-sounding girl:

They spoke a completely different language! I WANT TO LEARN IT! I wish I had a clue what any of the lingo in these lyrics means.

Have you heard Royal Crown Revue? They do some great upbeat swingy stuff. Also, the Louisville Sluggers are pretty cool.

The only parts I really don't get are:

- why the mellow side? What's that mean, specifically?
- "like your eggs on the Jersey side"? Double-you Tee Eff.
- "gators." I get the whole steady fool, makin' the joint jump - but the gators lost me.

I'm guessing an ickaroo is like a bummer, a downer, somebody who will not get hep to the jumpin' jive.
