You have no idea how many people think that you can take a black and white photo and turn it into a color photo just by putting it on a color copying machine.
Teenage boy: I need a copy of my license. ::hands it to me:: Me: Ok. ::makes black and white:: Boy: Oh... I need it in color. Me: I'm afraid that'd be illegal - gubmint considers it kinda like counterfeiting, y'know? Boy: Oh, ok. ... but... I only need it for the picture. Me: I guess that's doable! ::puts white editing tape over the rest of the license, so it's a white card with a face on it:: Boy: That won't work, can you take the tape off? Me: I thought you said all you needed was the photo? Boy: .............. ::leaves::
Hey, I was trying to be nice and actually help him! I could understand wanting to show somebody your license photo, or needing to use it for something because you didn't have any other pictures of yourself handy. He hanged himself with the rope I gave him...
Well, THAT guy probably was - he was underage and being hedgey about it - but all the other people? I have no idea. Maybe it's just that they think color copies are better quality, and then when I try to politely warn them of the illegality (you can, and someone I know has, get in trouble for having a color copy because depending on who's enforcing it they CAN interpret it as an attempt at forgery), they don't want to admit that they were wrong, so they make an issue out of it rather than lose any face... I really don't know.
