titusnowlMerriwether Lewis was manic-depressive, and eventually got himself into major governmental debt, became addicted to opiates, and killed himself.
His manner of suicide confuses me. He shot himself. Twice. First in the head, and then in the chest. That's a man who is BOUND AND DETERMINED to kill himself.
Especially since pretty much all he had available to him were single-shot weapons*. I know that logically he must have just had two, or something. Because I really can't imagine giving oneself a greivous skull wound then stopping to reload.
* It was 1809, the same year as my gun is associated with.
Seriously, he shot himself in the face AND chest. The mind boggles.
