Mountain Man Gathering in Grand Prairie, November 12-13.
Finally an excuse to wear historic costume. Mine won't be "mountain man" oriented, obviously, but I don't suppose anyone would fault me for dressing as a lady of the same time period in a slightly more civilized region, right? All I have to do is decide what to make, and get it made in the next nine months. I'd get the most wear out of an 1830s day dress (I could wear it to all of the Texas things, since that's the decade Texas became itself and when most of the towns in this area were founded), but that style is not flattering to a woman of my size and shape - I'd look like a muffin. I'm mostly torn between a very tailored 1810s-ish dress with military-style braid trim, and my sentimental favorite 1780s open robe in blue and silver stripes and big flat straw hat. Which do you think would be more appropriate? Possibly more importantly, which do you think would be easier for me to create as my very first historic costuming project?
