Writing the India story has given me a history bug. I think I'm going to ask Justin to take me to the college library on Thursday and do some actual research.
- The British Empire in general
- English social conditions in 1850
- Daily life in 1850
- India in 1850
- The British Army of the Victorian Era
- Uniforms
- Elephants
- Pretty much everything else.
I'm sure I'll never actually write the whole story out as it should be, but I want to have the historical knowledge to be able to do so. I'm actually pretty proud of the plot as it stands, but I want to have the knowledge to add details and change things - with historical accuracy as my goal; if I decide to include something that's not strictly accurate, I want to be doing it on purpose and with full knowledge of it, like when Bernard Cornwell conflates two regiments so he can give Sharpe a reason to be somewhere, and steals another man's glory so he can give Sharpe a victory.
