Roger, setting breakfast on the table:  We ought to have a name for ourselves.  We can't all be saints, you know.
Norman, thoughtfully: Angels?
Dicky, seriously: No, that's been done, and better.  We'd none of us look that good in hot pants.
Norman, suggestively: Roger might.
Roger, protestingly: Look, I only wore that dress because Simon said it was strategically important!
Dicky, impertinently: But did he say 'Simon Says' first?
Roger, truculently: I'm never cooking breakfast for you lot again, just see if I do.
Simon, calmly: That's fine.  You never leave any for us anyway.
Norman, conversationally: Also you talk with your mouth full.
Roger, hastily swallowing: I do not!
Simon, crushingly: You do.
Dicky, decisively: At any rate, Angels is out.  Pass the marmalade.
Roger, teasingly: What's the magic word?
Dicky, childishly: 'Simon Says.'
Roger, contrarily: He does not.  Dicky says, and that's not the same at all.
Simon, sweetly: Pass Dicky the marmalade, please.  That's a good boy.
Dicky, around a mouthful of toast: How about the Irregulars?
Roger, accusingly: Now who's talking with his mouth full?
Simon, amused: Three items.  One, Roger is right this time.
Roger, interrupting: Hooray!
Simon, continuing: Two, I am not Sherlock Holmes, and three, this is not Baker Street.
Dicky, cheerfully: We're certainly irregular, though.
Norman, offensively: Roger more than most.
Roger, after a moment's silent glowering: Halos.
Simon, beaming warmly: That's it, my dear old cantaloupe!  The Saint and his Halos.
In unison, happily: That'll do!
Simon, after a pause:  Roger can still wear hot pants if he likes.

Roger might be Jonny Lee Miller (Macleane!). Who, in real life, is friends with Jude Law apparently, so there might be a nice real-life chemistry. Although then you'll get people writing RPS, of which I disapprove.

Dicky, sadly, doesn't matter, as he goes off and gets married nearly as soon as we meet him, and so isn't in the book we're basing the movie on. But we'll slip Monty Hayward in for a cameo so when he pops up more prominently in the sequel the kids in the know will be all SEE!

The only question is whether we should go for a standalone flick that ends with Norman getting shot (IT IS NOT A SPOILER IF IT IS MENTIONED ON THE FIRST PAGE OF THE BOOK AND ALSO IN THE CHAPTER TITLES) and then begs for a sequel - that's how the books are set up - The Saint and the Last Hero (also published as The Saint Closes the Case, but it's obvious we're going to use the original title for the movie) followed by The Avenging Saint (also published as Knight Templar - actually Last Hero and Knight Templar are the original UK titles, and Closes the Case and Avenging are the later US republishing titles, so we're mixing our tenses as it were, but I think it's important to keep the word Saint in the title). The other option would be to compress both books into one movie which would mean tightening the action and not having as much straight simonandroger but which would also make for a more cohesive standalone flick.

And then of course we have to get permission from the Charteris estate and write scripts and convince a studio to produce it and anyway yeah Jonny Lee Miller.

He's the same age as Jude Law. Although Jonny seems to have started showing his age more lately. I hope it's just funny camera angles.

Honestly the subject of who to cast for Roger has been worrying me and I'm still not 100% with it, although the Macleane thing makes me happy. (Down-on-his-luck playboy who likes stealing moneys and hanging out with other men, while being Just Bright Enough To Be Really Good At Following Orders, and Not Quite Bright Enough To Keep From Fucking Up When Left On His Own!)

And it's hard to say (and I'm too lazy to log into my proper account right now) what the relative ages are, although I could definitely see Roger being younger than Simon and I don't think he'd be any older. (Monty Hayward might be slightly older.)
