Today we go to Longview to attempt to get the Champagne Supernova running again, as has been our intention for well over two months - I kept being sick on our Sundays off, and thus unable to make the 100-mile drive. I feel fine today, though, so off we go! I am bringing my Saint omnibus and probably spending at least part of the time visiting the parrots at the local pet store, because I am actually quite useless when it comes to fixing cars and I get bored.
When I was younger my dad would always intend to help me learn how to work on cars, because I was the surrogate son and thus did all sorts of things that boys usually do with their dads while my sister learned how to put on makeup and talk to guys. (To this day I don't know how to put on makeup like a real person; I exclusively wear it like a flapper, heavy eyes and cupid's-bow lips.) Unfortunately, my dad's personality being what it is, what actually happened is Dad would work on cars and I'd be unable to tell what he was doing 'cause he'd get caught up in it and stop narrating except for the occasional unprintable term. The upshot of this is that I don't even know where the oil plug is on the Jeep, because I haven't changed my own oil since Dad gave away my beloved Cavalier, and when it comes to investigating the possible transmission problems in the Nova, I'm going to be entirely useless.
My cell phone finally works again, by the way; I've set the ringtone to be Orbital's remix of the theme from "The Saint," done for the Val Kilmer movie which I might actually rent and watch because Justin gained a new appreciation for Val Kilmer through watching Tombstone and Kiss Kiss Bang Bang and even though they've kind of raped the character as far as I can tell from the synopsis it might still be a decent movie if I can just forget that this is supposed to be my Simon and pretend it's somebody else with a coincidental name. Also I have text messages, and I love text messages. Hooray!

Val's best movie ever is still Real Genius.
